Dan Ahwa is a New Zealand–based creative director, journalist, curator, stylist, and brand ambassador with over two decades of experience at the forefront of fashion and culture.
Recognised for his refined editorial sensibility, he moves fluidly across image and language, shaping narratives that sit at the intersection of style, culture, luxury, and politics with clarity and depth.
For more than ten years, he held the role of Fashion & Creative Director at the award-winning Viva and Canvas magazines at The New Zealand Herald, where his vision helped define and elevate the visual and editorial language of contemporary fashion publishing in Aotearoa, influencing editorial and commercial touch points across print, digital and events.
A respected voice within the industry, Ahwa has contributed to the governance and direction of organisations including board roles with the New Zealand Fashion Museum and Mindful Fashion NZ. He currently serves as a creative director and mentor at New Zealand Fashion Week.
He is equally committed to mentoring emerging talent, fostering the next generation of creative practitioners with generosity and intent.
Dan has also extended his creative output with the release of Archive by Dan Ahwa, a made-to-order menswear capsule collection with unisex appeal inspired by his own wardrobe archive.
In 2019, he co-curated and co-authored Moana Currents: Dressing Aotearoa Now alongside Doris de Pont, a landmark exhibition and publication that reflects his enduring commitment to celebrating and documenting the evolving narratives of New Zealand fashion.
His handwriting has appeared in a range of work including editorial for Fashion Quarterly, Vogue Australia, British Vogue, Esquire and GQ Magazines along with campaign work for the likes of Mercedes Benz, Air New Zealand, The Royal New Zealand Ballet, Canterbury New Zealand, Netflix and Polo Ralph Lauren.
